LAGOS-IBADAN FAST SPEED TRAIN NOW FOUR TRIPS DAILY

The frequency of the Lagos - Ibadan passenger rain service shall increase from one  to two round trips per day from Monday, June 14, 2021.

A release from the public relations department of Nigerian Railway Corporation also showed that the train shall not be originating from Obafemi Awolowo Station, Moniya-Ibadan only but also from theMobolaji Johnson Station, Alagomeji-Lagos.  What this means is that there will be morning and evening trips from both ends.

The scheduled departure time for the morning trips from Mondays to Fridays is 8.00 am while the departure time for the evening trip is 4.00 pm.

There is a slight difference in the week end trips schedule. Departure on Saturday mornings is 08.30 while the evening trip is 18.00 hours(6.00) from Ibadan and Lagos.

The release also revealed that Agege, Kajola, Olodo  and Papalanto are now the stop stations of the Lagos Ibadan Train Services. This is going to be a cheery news to prospective commuters  who felt excluded from the previous  arrangement when Wole Soyinka Station, Abeokuta was the only stop between Lagos and Ibadan.

It would be recalled that RAILWAYMAN gave a hint last week that NRC was planning to deploy more DMU sets for the Lagos - Ibadan service and increase it's frequency after the presidential flag off as the train service was already becoming inadequate for the increasing ridership. There is no decision on reducing the current journey time of 2 hours 40 minutes yet.

The Lagos-Ibadan train service commenced trial commercial passenger operations last December following a ministerial directive after the completion of construction on the 156 kilometres fast speed double track standard gauge railway in November 2020. The service has continued to attract a huge ridership despite the initial complaints from some sections of the public concerning the fare cost.
