Engr. Okhiria Continues As MD NRC

It is no longer a rumour. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the re-appointement of Engr. Fidet Freeborn Edetalaen Okhiria has been re-appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Railway Corporation(NRC) for another four year tenure with effect from October 20, 2020.

Even before the news of the presidential approval started filtering in, there were already high expectations by the railway community and other stake holders for Engr. Okhiria who is described as hard working and energetic and has proven his worth for position of NRC MD, be given the opportunity to establish a modernised rail system in Nigeria.

" It is a well deserved gesture from PMB. Everybody sees how he has buried himself completely into the standard gauge projects and we all can see that he is delivering. He is the right person Amaechi and Buhari needs to achieve their agenda for the building of new railway lines. Another person may not have his kind of drive and finis." Says a commentator who would not want his name mentioned.  

Engr. Ali Miko Bichi in a congratulatory message he placed on his own facebook time line prayed for God's guidance on the NRC boss as he "continues to bring excellent leadership, qualitative projects and developmental strides to Nigerian Railway Corporation." 

Staff of the Corporation have also been reacting to the news of the re-appointment of Engr Fidet Okkhiria through the Railway Staff Forum, a face book platform




. They see the development as a reward for hard work and dedication.

Engr. F.E. Okhiria has a significant record of achievements in the fields of electrical, mechanical, telecommunication, signalling and ICT. As well as installation, management and  maintenance of railway equipment. 

The quiet and soft spoken NRC helmsman hails from Iruepken, Ekpoma in Edo State. He attended schools at Ekpoma and Akoka(unilag).. He joined NRC in 1987 as Pupil Engineer, after a brief stint as Electrical Engineer with the Nigerian Institute of Instrumentation and rose to the position of Director, Electrical/Mechanical & Signal/Telecommunication before his appointment as MD in October 2016.

He is Fellow, Society of Nigerian Engineers; Fellow, Institute of Mechanical Engineers; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport; Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management; Member, Institute of Directors(IoD) and many other professional bodies. He has presented papers at conferences and workshops in Nigeria and abroad.
